Periodic Inspections

GWEC is your local provider of periodic electrical inspections. We operate across Ireland, carrying out mandatory periodical inspections of domestic electrical installations. Unlike businesses and landlords, homeowners aren’t required by law to conduct a periodic electrical test, although it is often required as part of the buying or selling process. It’s also good practice to regularly check the safety of your home’s electrics, similar to how you would service a boiler or a car.

Why Do I Need Periodic Electrical Inspections?

Regular inspections are not just a regulatory formality, they are an essential part of maintaining the safety and functionality of your home's electrical systems.

Our periodical inspections offer a range of benefits. Firstly, we ensure that your electrical installations meet all regulatory requirements. This makes sure that you and your family safe from potential electrical hazards.

Additionally, our inspections guarantee a definitive connection to the electrical network, helping you meet all necessary standards and legal obligations.

How Often Should I Test My Electrics?

Electric installations in the home, just like anything else, are subject to ageing, deterioration, and general wear and tear. For that reason, among others, electrical tests should be conducted on a regular basis. It is advised that homeowners and landlords test at the following intervals:

Homeowners: every ten years.

Landlords: every five years, or when there is a change of tenancy.

What Does a GWEC Periodic Electrical Test Involve?

A periodic electrical test will check if your home's electrical installations have any faults that would be unidentifiable from a standard visual check. There are a number of faults that could be uncovered, including electrical circuits overheating or becoming overloaded while in use. If a circuit is not installed properly, it can potentially lead to a fire or a shock hazard. By periodically testing your home's electrics, you can pinpoint any defective electrical work in the home's electrical system.

GWEC's trained electricians can also carry out visual checks of your property, providing you with a quick analysis of how safe it is. Visual checks will highlight damage light switches and sockets, broken cables and scorch marks from overloaded power outlets, among many other things. Visual checks should be carried out at regular intervals between more thorough periodic inspections.
